Think Pink

I'm surprised that my black bomber jacket hasn't made an appearance on this blog yet due to the number of days a week that I wear it. It's because of this exact reasoning that I decided that I needed another one! I've seen a lot of khaki ones, and as much as I like it I didn't want to get a colour that a hundred of other people are wearing as well.

After tossing up between a navy bomber and a baby pink bomber - this one took the cake.

Finding a pink bomber was as hard as you think it would be, especially since I was very picky about what shade I wanted and what sort of texture it had. After strolling into Forever New (where I also bought my black bomber), I spotted this pink one and decided that I needed to get it as well.

This also makes another milestone of mine: buying the same thing in two different colours. Apart from cardigans and basic shirts, I've never done this before!

Killer Lunchtimes at House of Hue

Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of visiting Nicole and her intern, Jono, at House of Hue, the home of Killer Aesthetics. I choose three outfits that fit their Killer Lunchtime series of photos that they're featured on their website and instagram, and Nicole snapped a few photos of me. My friend and partner-in-crime, also came along with me to take some of these sweet BTS photos as well!

Window Seat

Since a couple of years ago, there was an awkwardly fast transition between summer and winter here in Perth. This meant that I haven't been able to bust out a lot of pieces for what was meant to be spring and autumn (read: cute cardigans that would either be too warm or too cold to wear, and capes/ponchos that don't cover enough skin to be reliably warm in winter). Included in that list would be these leather overalls.

Knot Your Nachos

I'm a sucker for anything that's black and flowy, so when I saw this dress I immediately fell in love. There was a lot of um-ing and ah-ing before purchasing it because of how different it looks on me (a very short person) than on the model (skinny with skyscraper legs). After trying it on twice - or thrice - I managed to tweak the way the knot sits to make it a lot of shorter on me than it actually it.

Greyscale

What a better way to make a comeback than by wearing all my favourite colours? I wore this outfit while running some errands in preparation for the launch of Aesthetic Collective, which is the new business venture my friend and I have decided to go forward with, but perhaps I'll leave that for a proper introduction to it in another post.

Lorac Pro Matte Palette - Review & Monolid Makeup Look

The Lorac Pro Matte Palette was one of the many addition made to my makeup collection while I visited the United States a couple of months ago. Lorac can be purchased from Sephora here in Australia, but Perth is currently lacking a brick and mortar store and I've heard too many horror stories about Luxola - I mean Online Sephora - to ever make a purchase from them.

What drew me to this palette was the fact that it was all matte. I prefer matte shades over shimmer because I find them much easier to wear during the day since I usually go overboard with my highlighter so shimmer eyeshadows can make me look like a disco ball. And how good does that burgundy colour look?

You can see that the two rows follow a light to dark pattern, with varying shades of brown. All the colours are more warm than cool, which is something to consider if you find that warmer tones don't work too well for you. What I love the most is how versatile all the shades are, so I can use it for both a simple day time look or a smokey night time look.

The palette itself is extremely thin, which is a feature Lorac palette seem to all have. This makes it super easy to travel with and will definitely be taken with me the next time I venture out of Perth.

Left to right: Bare, Latte, Corduroy, Chocolate

I found Bare to be quite patchy to apply and although it appears quite pigmented in the swatch, once applied on the eyelid takes a little while to build up colour. I use this one more as a base colour more than anything else because it's pretty similar to my own skin tone. You can see that Latte is a bit more powdery when swatched than the others, but still applies nicely on the skin. Corduroy and Chocolate are similar in colour, with Chocolate being a little darker than Corduroy, but the difference isn't obvious once applied.

Left to right: Linen, Pink Mauve, Burgundy, Jet Black

Minimal editing has been done on the above two photos as I tried to keep true to the colours that they appeared, but I still don't feel like I captured the true colour of Pink Mauve. It is definitely slightly more pink than it appears in the swatch above, but I would describe it as a brown-pink. Burgundy wasn't as red-based as I expected it to be, but it was more of a dark brown with slight red undertones.

Overall, the eyeshadows are quite powdery, with some much more so than others. Although I do most of the colour in this little palette, I wish that there was a shade between Latte and Chocolate, because I found that Corduroy was too close of a colour to Chocolate, and it would've been perfect if it was a little lighter. Also, if Burgundy was a touch more red, I think I would've loved it so much more as well. But at the end of the day, if you're after a super versatile palette that is easy to take with you every where, this is one that I would definitely recommend.

I thought I would end this post with a mini tutorial showing you how well the colour show up on my monolids.

Here I did a quick look with a few of the colours to achieve a daytime smokey look - something I don't wear very often. I started off with Bare as my base colour, and used Corduroy all over the lid, focusing on the outer corners and making a small winged shape. Then I used Burgundy to go over Corduroy to intensify the colour and smoke it out a little. To add a bit more depth I used Jet Black to emphasise the wing a little and put a bit of shadow only to the other corners. For my bottom, I smudged out Corduroy and then went over it with Jet Black to darken the colour closest to my waterline. Linen was also placed at my inner corners to highlight. Add a bit of eyeliner to your inner corners to carve out your eye shape, and mascara to both your top and bottom lashes.

Frolic

It's been a while, but I'm back with a new post taken a little while ago. I suppose life has been a bit hectic these past few months, but I'm hoping to gain some inspiration and hop back onto the blog-writing horse. Happy belated new year - I hope you all have had a wonderful start to the year.

Parallel Lines

To be honest, I'm pretty surprised that it's taken me this long to feature stripes in an outfit post. If you look in my closet, you'll see that one-fifth is taken up by an array of different striped tops. Yes, they are different! Some stripes are thicker than others, or spaced further a part!

Part II - Just Hold On We're Going Home

Day three, we said good morning to some cute cows staring at us blankly from the side of the road. I was adamant that we head west to Denmark, because I've seen so many beautiful photos of the place but there wasn't really anywhere that I wanted to go specifically. Once we got into town, we made a stop to a supermarket to replenish our supplies (i.e. coke for Jeff, and snacks for me). I also quickly searched "Things to do in Denmark," as a last ditch effort to find out what to do there with my limited internet.

Below is the picturesque place called Greens Pool. The water was even clearer than I remember it being in Albany, and the sand felt even softer under my feet. The sky reflecting off the ocean was also so, so blue that I couldn't believe what I was seeing was for real. Unfortunately, neither of us brought our swimming gear with us, but the water was freezing cold that I don't know if we would've been able to stand being in that water anyway.

There was also a sign next to Greens Pool directing us that to our left was Waterfall Beach. Now, who could pass up a name like that? I like waterfalls as much as the next person. Imagine our surprise when we found the "waterfall." You can see it in the second photo, and it was tiny! I'm a short person, but it was even shorter than I am. We were sure that fresh water was flowing from it though, and I really enjoyed the marbling effect the water made on the sand towards the ocean.

Next we went to the Valley of the Giants, home to the gloriously giant trees near Denmark. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Grandmother Willow in person as well.

At this point, it was getting quite late and we wanted to make it to Margaret River before sun down simply because I didn't want Jeff to be driving 110 km/hr in the dark. We managed to make it there at around 5PM, where we settled down and had a shower before heading off to dinner. This was also the one night I forget to bring my ID, and ask to be carded at a restaurant/bar. And that's the story of how I was denied a glass of prosecco with my dinner, and I made fun of Jeff - who was allowed some white wine - that it must've looked like he was dating someone underage. He wasn't happy.

The next morning we ate breakfast at a cafe I unfortunately can't remember the name of.

Then we filled the car back up with petrol and made our way north back to Perth.

But not before we visited a couple of wineries to taste what they had to offer. First we went to Leeuwin Estate, which I always remember as having a very beautiful venue. I wasn't disappointed, and proceeded to take many photos.

Next we went to Voyager Estate, only because I make it a point to visit this winery every time I come down to Margaret River because of it's beautiful gardens. We didn't taste any wine, but that wasn't the point of this detour.

Our last stop was The Watershed winery. I know, it seems like we were a bit rushed for time but that's because we were. Also because we couldn't risk drinking too much when we had a long drive home ahead.

After this, we finally turned to go home, and made it home in one piece. Of course, the rest of our adventure was spent mainly in the car so I have no awesome photos to show you guys from that.

I hope you enjoyed coming on this journey with me through my photos, and I'm looking forward to the next time I can share my travel stories with you.
